Warehouse and Distribution Centre

Client and Owner: Sobeys Inc.

Valdor was retained to prepare the site servicing and grading plan as well as a stormwater management report for a 47,430 sq.m. (510,000 sq.ft.) warehouse building on a 17.7 hectare (43.7 acre) site in the City of Vaughan.  The site design included the grading design for 80 shipping and receiving loading docks and trailer storage area based on specific criteria to meet the requirements of the client.  The design included the visitor and office staff parking areas separated by security fencing from the trucking area.

A grading design was prepared in conjunction with an iterative cut / fill analysis using our digital terrain modelling software to balance the earthworks within the site.  The project also included a cost comparison of conventional heavy duty asphalt paving and roller compacted concrete (RCC) pavement.  The RCC pavement was selected for its superior performance with respect to the heavy tractor trailer traffic.  A portable batching plant was erected on the site to supply the 40,000 sq.m. of RCC pavement.

Waste Transfer and Recycling Facility

Client: Danlauton Holdings Ltd.

Valdor was retained to prepare the site servicing and grading plan as well as a stormwater management report for a waste transfer and recycling facility on a 14.6 hectare (36.1 acre) site in the City of Vaughan.  The site design included the grading and drainage design for a 2.9 hectare (7.2 acre) paved parking lot and sorting area (equivalent to a total of approx. 500 parking spaces) and intersection improvements for the site access at Highway 50.

The project also included the detailed design of an on-site stormwater management pond providing quantity and quality control as well as an infiltration trench to achieve the water balance criteria of the local conservation authority.  A flood study was completed to define the developable limits of the site including the hydraulic analysis for a culvert required to cross a watercourse.
